Have You Not Seen This Yet?

SpringBreakdown05Randomly I stumbled on this movie, Spring Breakdown, while mindlessly clicking through channels. It stars Amy Poehler, Parkey Posey and Rachel Dratch. How had I not heard of an Amy Poehler vehicle? I love her. Next to Tina Fey and Kristin Wiig, Amy Poehler is just one of those women who always makes us laugh, but also seems socially responsible and like someone I’d want to drink wine with. And she manages to crush hosting the Golden Girls with other badass funny lady, Tina Fey. Basically, she’s on my list of girl crushes.

So here I’m sending a shout-out to this 2009 Amy Poehler gem, Spring Breakdown. It’s in the vein of Bridesmaids.  In case, I haven’t convinced you…

Why Should You Watch This Movie?

1. They Brought Back Wilson Phillips’ “Hold On” TWO YEARS Before Bridesmaids Did It!

Few women over a certain age just get a little nostalgic for,

Some day somebody’s gonna make you want to
Turn around and say goodbye
Until then baby are you going to let them
Hold you down and make you cry

It starts at 2:10

2. Amy Poehler

Need I say more? This woman makes me laugh…all the time. Whether hosting the Globes, as Leslie Knope, on SNL, Baby Mama, you name it. And when she’s not making us laugh, she hosts an awesome web series, Smart Girls, that encourages and spotlights young women and girls who are changing the world by being themselves. She also gives kickass commencement speeches. Just a general thumbs up to Amy Poehler and anything she does!

3. Did I mention the “True Colors” medley?

I have a serious soft spot for Cyndi Lauper’s True Colors. Seriously, I’ll fight anyone who thinks this song isn’t and always has been amazing. (And by fight, I mean argue aggressively.) Also, I think I owned the same vest Amy Poehler wears in this scene.

So next time you’re tooling around on Netflix, Spring Breakdown is the way to go. If you have any doubts, just remember… “Hold On” AND “True Colors” interpretations in one movie!
