What started out as four friends talking has become so much more. I, along with my co-creators Katy, Jenni and AnnaLea created WeForShe.org. Basically we were four friends from varying backgrounds in producing, writing and acting, and we wanted something to change. We wanted to see more television with fascinating, dynamic, flawed women of every ethnicity – and not just the ones who manage to also be a size 0 and look 28 forever. Hearing the statistics on gender imbalance in film and TV is sobering. Take for example, “The film industry is in a state of gender inertia. There is no evidence to suggest that women’s employment has improved in key behind-the-scenes roles over the last 16 years,” according to Dr. Martha Lauzen, executive director of the Center for the Study of Women in Television and Film at San Diego State University. And despite being thrilled with the rise in awareness of top notch and bankable women creating television shows (like Orange is the New BlackTransparent, Jane the Virgin and Girls) according to the 2013-2014 Boxed In Report, there was a 4% decrease in female creators this season. 4% decrease:(

We saw a need for action and from this place, the WriteHer list was born. We started with the simple desire to bring female-driven content to the forefront of development in Hollywood.  The WriteHer List is a list of top quality, original, unproduced TV scripts written by women that feature strong female characters. Culled from over 100 nominations, the list features the top 15 scripts and 5 honorable mention that best represent quality, industry-vetted, female-driven content.

Please check out the WriteHer List’s 15 for 2015. Congratulations to the writers and thank you to all the amazing individuals who participated in the inaugural list. We have been moved by your tremendous show of support and look forward to hearing your thoughts.
