The Many Women of George Clooney and Why I Believe They’re Smarter Than We Think+comment
Award season. It’s such fun, isn’t it? The clothes, the crazy speeches, wondering who will cry or forget to thank someone really important. I may be in the minority, but I truly enjoy awards shows. Of course, I prefer to view them surrounded by my friends and with a bottle of wine but I think that many women view awards shows the way men view things like sporting events. The playoffs? Well, that’s the Golden Globes and the SAG awards. The big game? Oscars, baby.
And just like traditions associated with the Superbowl (the commercials, the fact that a lot of people probably despise one of the teams playing), the Oscars come with their own traditions and game changers. They may not have the commercials, but they do have an equally fun spectator sport: checking out George Clooney’s date du jour.
What is it about Clooney? The ladies love him. The guys love him. Everyone loves him. He could have anyone he wanted. And, yet, he seems to pick his dates the way I pick shoes. Ooh, pretty! Sparkly! Fancy! A gossip site refers to Clooney’s ladies as “Oscar Date Barbie.” Funny, and rather accurate. The question remains, though: is George playing these girls, or are they playing him?
Think about it: Clooney’s latest girl, Stacy Keibler, just signed with William Morris Endeavor (one of the biggest talent agencies in Hollywood). Stacy’s former career was as a wrestler. I suppose that counts as a type of acting, but you can’t deny that her career got a huge boost when she went from former WWE girl to current Clooney arm candy.
Likewise, George’s ex, Elisabetta Canalis, saw her star power shoot off of the charts when she was the apple of Clooney’s eye. True, she didn’t book her gig on “Dancing with the Stars” until after the two had split, but still. Do you think anyone would have known who she was without him? Doubtful. She’s a very pretty Italian quasi-celebrity…hardly a hot commodity in the United States.
George Clooney gets a lot of flak for his romantic life. The women he chooses tend to be pretty, young and relatively unknown. He never dates someone of equal star power. It’s almost like he enjoys a girl that he can fix up and turn from a diamond in the rough to a sparkling jewel. And you know what? Maybe these women really benefit from that. Maybe they realize that by dating one of Hollywood’s most eligible bachelors, they can take their careers from 0 to 100 in a matter of a couple of dates. I hope that is what it is. I want to believe that these are smart women who are looking to have a little fun with an attractive guy, go to some fun Hollywood parties, and maybe get some job offers. You go, Stacy Keibler. Your relationship with Clooney may not last, but if you play your cards right, your career will.
